Fort Lauderdale Port Fort Lauderdale, Florida

The new T25 terminal (in Hollywood FL) was officially inaugurated with the ship's arrival (on November 20th). The grand ceremony was attended by Richard Fain (RCG's President and CEO) and Lisa Lutoff-Perlo (Celebrity's President and CEO), plus key cruise brand executives and local officials. An exclusive event was hosted at NSU's Oceanographic Center. Port Everglades' "Northport Terminal 2" and "Northport Terminal 4" share a car parking (a multi-story garage) with capacity thousands of cars. In early-December 2018, Port Everglades and Empresa Nacional Portuaria de Honduras (Honduras Port Authority) signed an MOU as part of the Sister Seaports Program.

Fort Lauderdale is a cosmopolitan city with all types of restaurants, from casual diners to fine dining. You can find everything from Southern comfort food and local seafood dishes to Caribbean and Latin American cuisines, Asian fusion and more. While there are public buses in Fort Lauderdale, there's no easy or convenient way to transit from the airport to the port. Forth Lauderdale’s South Beach Park is the nearest to downtown beach. It is lifeguarded and unique as it borders a paved promenade street. This followed Disney's decision to change homeporting to Port Everglades from Miami.

Cruise Terminal 2 (Princess Cruises)

It’s the main Royal Caribbean terminal and serves some of the largest ships in the cruise line’s fleet (Oasis-class vessels). As with all the terminals, there are parking options right nearby. Terminal 2Renovated a few years ago, Terminal 2 is home to Princess Cruises. One of the unique features of the terminal is that it’s setup for Princess’ Ocean Medallion service, which is a wearable device that can replace your room keycard. The terminal offers 85,000 square feet of space, including about 21,000 square feet for passenger waiting, so you should never feel cramped.

Greater Fort Lauderdale's thriving beer culture encompasses many nano- and micro-breweries that offer over 500 beers. Lester's Diner (250 FL-84), just 10 mins from Port Everglades, is another favorite spot for all-day and all-night dining. It's been in business for more than 40 years and is a terrific place for a quintessential diner breakfast. At lunch and dinner, order Greek and Italian specialties as well as burgers, deli-style sandwiches and roast chicken.

It’s an older terminal, but still perfect for getting on the ship. One issue is that the official port parking garage is a bit of a trek from here. You’ll want to park and then take the free shuttle to the terminal. Interested in more hotels, including options with cruise parking or shuttles to the port? See our list of Port Everglades hotels with cruise shuttles here and port hotels with cruise parking here. Many times, it makes sense to buy the cruise line's bus transfer from the airport to port and vice versa.

The renovation and extension allow the handling of larger-sized (including Carnival's newest) vessels. As part of the addendum, Carnival Corporation receives preferential berthing at Terminal 4. In mid-2017 were completed the works on Cruise Terminal 4's extensions (project cost USD 13,6 million) which allows now docking of larger vessels.

SecurityCruise security is somewhat similar to that of an airport, but much less stressful. As you arrive, you’ll show your ID and boarding documents to make sure you are supposed to be on the ship. Then, you’ll put your bag through an x-ray machine as you walk through a metal detector. There’s no need to remove things like liquids from your luggage, nor do you need to remove shoes, belts, or laptops. Before you can get onto the ship, you have to check in and pass through security. The good news is that it’s no big deal and in most cases can be done in 15 minutes or less.

While some hotels offer rides for free, usually you will pay a nominal fee for the service. See our full list of Port Everglades hotels with cruise shuttles. Once inside the port, you’ll want to follow the signage to the appropriate cruise terminal for the ship.

The shore-power project's cost was estimated at ~US$20 million per terminal. The total ~US$160 million investment is expected to be financed through federal and state grants, plus contributions from Broward County , FPL, and the three participating cruise companies. Construction works are scheduled to start in 2024-Q2 and be completed in 2027-Q4. Each terminal at the cruise port in Fort Lauderdale has between 1,000 and 3,000 seats and can supplement that number with folding chairs during long delays. Within a 20-minute drive, other restaurants and shops for purchasing last-minute items can also be found along Fort Lauderdale Beach.

That means you can drive and arrive when you want, and then head home the second you get off the ship. Given the number of parking spots at the port, you don’t have to reserve a spot ahead of time. Even better news is that given the popularity of cruising from Fort Lauderdale, the hotels in the area cater to cruise passengers. A number of them offer up perks like cruise parking or shuttles to the cruise port. Hotel ShuttlesIf you plan to stay in a hotel the night before your cruise, then look for a hotel that offers a shuttle to the cruise port.

The boardwalk connects three parks, 50 restaurants and dozens of shops. You can walk the boardwalk or rent a bike, and there are benches and public restrooms along the way. The Fort Lauderdale Water Taxi, with multiple stops and commentary, provides easy access to the promenade. Other stops include the Hilton Marina and Convention Center, Beach Place and Hugh Taylor Birch State Park. Water Taxi tickets cost $28 for adults, $23 for seniors 65 and older and military personnel, and $14 for kids ages 5 to 11. In August 2016, the port signed with Carnival Corporation an extension to their agreement to the year 2030.

Four terminals -- cruise terminals 19, 21, 25 and share the 2,000-space Midport Garage, but only cruise terminal 29 has a complimentary shuttle service between the parking spots and terminal. Port tenants and visitors may experience heavy traffic and delays Monday, April 22 from 6AM to 2PM due to four cruise ships in port. Motorists are encouraged to include additional time to their commute. The port’s entrances are located at Federal Hwy (US1)/ State Road 84 (Spangler Blvd.), Eisenhower Blvd./SE 17th St., and I-595/Eller Dr.

The crew will pick them up and deliver the bags to the terminal for you. In this case you’ll need to wait until your debarkation group is told it’s time to get off the ship. Given the location of the port, getting there is a breeze, especially if you are flying in. But even if you live in the area and plan on driving, you can still easily get to your ship and park at the port. We’ve covered all the ways to get to your cruise with our port transportation article.
